Most people should get a first colonoscopy at age 50. This is an essential screening for colon cancer and is done on an outpatient basis. The procedure itself is very simple and quick, only requiring some preparation on your part the day before. Should any polyps or abnormalities be discovered, they will be removed or biopsied. Our gastroenterologist near Englewood also does upper endoscopies, which is a similar type of diagnostic test for the upper digestive tract. Another procedure, known as ERCP, is used to detect the presence of gallstones, jaundice, pancreatitis, cancer of the bile ducts or pancreas, and to diagnose the cause of abdominal pain. Endoscopic ultrasound is performed as away to delve more deeply into results that are found from having an endoscopy, CT scan, MRI, or traditional ultrasound; or to diagnose problems in the gallbladder, bile duct, or pancreas, when other types of tests have not provided the necessary information. If you have hemorrhoids, our gastroenterologist near Englewood can use a method called banding, which is a more permanent solution, essentially removing them by cutting off their blood supply. Other procedures done here include PEG, for providing nutrients tot he stomach in patients who can’t swallow, for example; video capsule endoscopy for certain small intestine issues; gastric surgery for weight loss; and fecal microbiota transplant.

At the Gastroenterology Group of Northern NJ, our 07631 gastroengeronologist provides patients with care for all aspects of gastrointestinal disease. We treat disorders such as acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, and perform colonoscopy procedures at our offices. Our colonoscopy procedure allows us to visually examine the internal structure of the colon in order to search for disease or irregularities.
Our 07631 gastroenteronologist performs colonoscopy procedures by inserting a tube with a camera into the colon area and transmits images from the camera to a display monitor. This helps us identify symptoms associated with abdominal pain, bloody stools, and other problems stemming from the colon. It is also done as a regular screening for colorectal cancer, which can start age age 50. The procedure itself is quick and painless. Before the procedure, an anesthetic through IV is given to relax the patient. During the procedure, the patient’s vital signs are monitored as the patient’s colon is examined.
